Help Me With This

So what class am I?  I’m thinking of this after watching the daily news.

My father grew up on a farm in remote Missouri in the 1930s, but he was brilliant, and after serving in the Marines in WW2, he went to Georgetown University in D.C.  He was born on the coldest day ever in that county in Missouri (and the record stands).  My mother was born on the hottest day in the history of Washington, D.C. (and the record stands).  They met in college and got married in 1950.  I was the first child in 1954.

Both of my parents, and both of my brothers, are long dead, so I’m a lonely survivor.

I’ve been broke, living out of my car.  I never got a nickel of assistance from my parents, who always had money problems.  But I’ve had an iron will and have constantly tried to move ahead.

So I fought my way through poverty and then law school and then some pompous legal jobs and then, 25 years ago, into self-employed law practice.    I’m now on the brink of selling my law practice and going into semi-retirement, with enough of an income to survive for a long time, as long as my beloved wife survives.  We’re never going to be rich, but we have our house paid off, and can probably keep buying food and necessities.

I’m nervous about being able to sustain this, for many reasons.

I apologize to users here who aren’t yet in a situation like this.  I greatly appreciate any comments.  You might be most understanding if you know that my wife is struggling with the rarest and most aggressive form of uterine cancer.  And I’m often a basket case these days; the fear can be really overwhelming.
