Arne Carlson, a Republican former governor of Al Franken’s home state of Minnesota has called on him not to resign, at least not until he gets some proper due process. www.twincities.com/…
I hope that’s a game-changer for Franken.
Of course I hope I don’t end up on a ridiculous, overheated hall of shame diary like this one: www.dailykos.com/…
My fantasy is that, if Roy Moore wins, Franken will go back to the Senate floor and retract his intention to resign in respect of his duty to the country. Perhaps he should promise not to run for reelection, but I would recommend that he not do that. I think he needs to say that his decision comes down to the tremendous need for his vote—right now and in the next few weeks—on things like the Republicans’s “tax” bill, which of course is a major heist from 99% to the upper 1%. He should say that that is so extremely important that it’s worth going back on his own statement about resigning on the Senate floor. That would be a true profile in courage. I HOPE HIS STAFF SEES THIS!
And, of course, he should make the point that what Trump and Moore have done are MANY times as serious as what he has been accused of, and what he’s accused of is tainted by the coaching and interfering and ratfucking of Roger Stone. As he said, some of the accusations against him are false.
I think the many Democratic senators sheepishly lining up to try to force Franken to resign are making a major strategic mistake.
And don’t give me any “no tolerance” bullshit!
There’s an old maxim that at 20 you have the face God gave you and at 40 you have the face you deserve. Look at Franken, Trump, and Moore. Listen to them. The injustice in this situation is outrageous!
I agree that some of the credible accounts of Franken kissing and groping women deserve censure. They probably should cause him to lose if he runs again. But I don’t think they require him to be expelled from the Senate, when Trump and Moore (and others) are getting away with MUCH worse. Once again the Democrats shoot themselves in the head.
