UPDATED: Some Good News About My Wife

I’ve written a couple of diaries about my wife’s battle with the rarest and most aggressive form of uterine cancer.  The top-notch oncological surgeon said the chance of recurrence is 50-50, even with the most active treatments.

She decided to go through surgery plus five months of chemotherapy, which were VERY rough.

Yesterday, after finishing the brutal chemo regime, she had a CT scan.  We thought we’d have to wait until a Dec. 12th meeting with the main oncologist (the attending surgeon), but today she heard from the other oncologist (who supervised the chemo) that the CT was clear.  Hallelujah!

The overall five-year survival rate for this horrible kind of cancer is only 30%.  But we just got the best possible news.  She will have to be monitored for the rest of her life every few months.

But right now the news is good!  And her bald head and eyebrows will start coming back.

There is so much blowing up in politics.  I hope some might appreciate this good personal note.

UPDATE:  Mrs. T asked me to post that she really appreciates all of the comments.

Incidentally, I’ve seen that figure of a 30% survival rate over five years in several different places, but that’s an average, and there is not much data on this kind of cancer.  Hers was caught at stage 1A (the lowest stage) so for her, thank God, the long-term survival odds may be quite high.
