Clio2 and Angmar have been running a diary series called CLASSIC POETRY that is often very wonderful. Last night I mentioned that I have about 50 of my poems typed up, but I’ve been too neurotic to publish them. She suggested I start a diary series in which DKos members could share some of their poems. I said I’d think about it. Well, I did, and here it is. I’m going to show one of my poems, and I invite everybody to submit one of theirs. Here’s the first one from me:
Memoriam in May
May 1979 (at age 24)
We turn off the radio and leave the interstate,
and ride over the country hills near sunset,
jubilant and calm with the colors of the earth.
Away from the thoughts and traffic of the city,
our senses swell with the smells of life
and the steady stream of clear clean light.
Down the cool aisles of sticky little green leaves
we laugh, and listen to the birds, and sing.
The world is aglow with the glory of Spring:
and [my friend's father] is dead.

Note: "sticky little green leaves" is English
for the Russian "klaykeeya leestochkee," which
was a favorite expression of Ivan Karamazov.

On edit: I hope some of you will add your own poems. I’m very interested to read them.
